It's called Crescent Boogaloo and consists of Dr. Lonnie Smith (organ), Donald Harrison (alto saxophone), Peter Bernstein (guitar), Christian Scott (trumpet) and Herlin Riley (drums). When Crescent Boogaloo performed in Seattle, three band members visited KPLU for an afternoon, & what a delight it was.

Published: May 16, 08To celebrate, we invited members of Tacoma's Stadium High School Jazz Band to perform in our Seattle studio with their mentor Lance Buller. David Mulkins, Stadium High's band director, also attended. They talked about the project and give us fine interpretations of three jazz standards: Little Suede Shoes, In A Sentimental Mood and In A Mellow Tone.

Published: Mar 7, 08On Monday, March 3rd, Canadian jazz vocalist, Holly Cole, officially began her first U.S. tour in 6 years with a sold-out, one-night stand at Dimitriou's Jazz Alley in Seattle. However, on the afternoon preceding that show, Holly and her band dropped by the KPLU studios for a 3-song performance and an interview with KPLU Music Director, Nick Francis.

In this performance/interview, hosted by Nick Morrison, Rebecca talks about the art of singing jazz ballads and gives us her interpretation of three jazz classics: 'Darn That Dream', 'My Funny Valentine' and 'Weaver Of Dreams.'
